The Course Aims
These are tailored to suit you taking your completed booking form into account. I aim to show you how;
- to work safely with newborn babies
- to use studio strobe lights to gently light the baby and scene
- to pose newborns in the popular positions and transition safely between poses.
- to demonstrate different wrapping techniques
- to soothe and settle the baby, understanding cues to tell you they are deeply sleeping
- to edit newborn images in a flattering way
- to manage parent’s expectations and your diary
- and share marketing tips for your new offering.
Schedule
As I am sure you appreciate when working with babies then we work to their schedules and whilst I can plan a rough idea of how I would like the day to go, there is no guarantee how things will pan out!
9.30 am Arrival and coffee
9.30 am - 10.00 am Looking at the set-ups and lighting etc
10.00 am - 2.00 pm Working with newborn models if available & SiB (StandInBaby).
2.00 pm - 2.30 pm Late Lunch
2.30 pm - 4.30 pm Editing, marketing and general brain-picking!
4.30 pm Finish.
What to Bring
- Your camera with spare batteries and CF cards. We are set up with lighting and triggers for Canon cameras. If your camera is not compatible with our lighting you can use ours and we’ll send your images on to you. We’ll still go through the settings in your camera so that you are confident when you go it alone.
- Lenses, totally up to you but I work with a 24 - 70mm L range lens,
- Dress in layers and lightly, the room we will be working in will be VERY warm, a plain black or plain white top is perfect. Colours can reflect on a baby’s skin and stripes can keep a baby awake and also avoid perfume for the same reason!
- Notepad and pen for lots of note taking
- Phone with plenty of charge, you may want to take a video of the wrapping technique

3 x 30-minute Zoom calls to be taken within 6 months of the course. These are to be arranged by you and can be used for image feedback, photography or marketing advice.
Payment & Cancelations
Your 1:1 date will be reserved for three days and the session fee is required in full to secure your booking.
If due to unforeseen circumstances you need to cancel or postpone the session please let me know as soon as possible and I will work with you to reschedule where I can. Sorry but the session fee is not refundable.
If for any reason we have to cancel the session (e.g. illness or unforeseen emergency) then an alternative date will be offered within 60 days. If it is not possible to reschedule the session in this time then a refund of any monies paid will be given.
Refunds are limited to monies paid to us. We recommend if you are incurring travelling costs that you obtain travel insurance for the trip. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed in the unlikely event of postponement/ cancellation.
IMPORTANT STUFF
Information shared on the course is for trainees only and should not be shared with others who have not attended the day.
You may use images taken during the training for your portfolio and marketing purposes but you must state they were taken on a training day to avoid misrepresentation.
When you work with babies you accept that they arrive in their own time and you have to be flexible. We will have a volunteer baby and a baby on standby, but even with our best efforts if Mummy or baby are unable to attend then the session will be run with a SiB (StandInBaby)
For insurance purposes you won’t be able to pose or wrap the volunteer baby, all practice posing and wrapping will take place with the SiB (StandInBaby)
