As part of Team Campbell, working alongside Pete, I've been lucky enough to experience lots of different types of photography including product photography, real estate photography and wedding photography. Within our studio I've taken Corporate headshots for Judges and even shot a portfolio for a budding model, but my absolute passion is photographing newborn babies, children and families.
Why I love photographing newborn babies
To start with I get lots and lots of cuddles (yes, a slightly selfish reason). The sessions involve lots of settling and soothing which means lots of cuddles for me. I get to spend time with these precious newborn babies who are just a few days old and then take photos of them as they sleep peacefully - it just doesn't get any better than that.
Meeting the happy parents
Because these sessions are quite long with plenty of time for feeding and soothing (and more cuddles), I spend lots of time with amazing parents who tell their unique stories and share precious memories with me. Sleep deprived, they just gush with pride when I gently move their baby into those squishy poses. It is such a privilege to be able to sit and chat with families about their birth experience and be a part of this time they will never get back.
The challenge
Every baby is beautifully individual, some are sleepy, some want to keep an eye on me and others need a few more cuddles to settle. I love being kept on my toes by these little bundles, and creating a session on the spot to suit them.
Keep it natural
I love working with soft coloured wraps and backdrops in my newborn portraits. It makes it all about squishy baby and their cute nose and toes. I'll use soft colours to create images that are classic and timeless.
Always learning
Over the years I've had one to one training from the best newborn photographers and completed many online workshops. The latest safety training is essential and learning new poses and wraps keeps it exciting for me and offers something new to our lovely parents.
Watching them grow
We have lots of lively children in our studio, many of who came to us as bumps and newborn babies. Capturing those milestones as they begin to sit independently and come for a 'little sitter' session, and join us to celebrate their first birthday is such a privilege for me. As they get older and siblings come along, capturing their smiles while they play is what makes my day. Brothers play fighting, big brother protecting little sister, families laughing together - these are precious moments that parents treasure.
Capturing memories and moments that families will treasure forever is an absolute pleasure.
