Why family portraits are so important

As photographers, we always stress the importance of getting family portraits taken. We always sympathise with parents who don't like standing in front of the camera, we don't like it either! We could list a thousand reasons why we don't want our photo taking, this blog explains why you should trust your photographer, value and enjoy a family session.

Family portraits make it possible to freeze time and capture an entire family at one single moment. In our technology crazed and fast paced world, it is sometimes hard to look back at our lives and remember what happened, with who, and when. Having pictures of the family at different stages in life is a great way to retain those valuable memories and make them last a lifetime.

The key is to find a photographer that will connect with your family and capture their smiles naturally.

Here are our top reasons why family portraits are so important.

Time goes so fast

We say it, and hear it said, so many times 'children grow up so quickly'. Within a month of being born they will change so much, and that's why being able to photograph newborn babies and families as they grow is such a privilege.

It boosts your child's self esteem

David Krauss, a licensed psychologist from Cleveland, Ohio says, I think it is really important to show a family as a family unit. It is so helpful for children to see themselves as a valued and important part of that family unit. A photographer’s job is to create and make the image look like a safe holding space for kids where they are safe and protected. Kids get it on a really simple level.”

Family Fun

Family portraits are the perfect way to make fun memories with your entire family, with family snaps usually one family member is left out of the shot because they are the one taking the photo. In our ultra busy, technology driven world a fun professional family portrait is a great family bonding activity.

Memories that last for ever

Unfortunately our time here is limited. Tomorrow is not promised and photographs provide an everlasting memory for family members to cherish and use to tell stories to future generations.

With photography being such a powerful tool in the world today, you have the opportunity to capture wonderful family portraits, and relive them all throughout your future. When it comes to spending time with your family, there is certainly nothing more important than always remembering the fun times you have shared together.
