We all love those perfectly posed and beautifully styled newborn photos. I've heard it said “Well, newborn photography is easy, the baby is sleeping all the time and you can move them however you wish.” "You get all the smiley toddlers in your studio, which must make sessions very easy." But these assumptions can’t be any further from the truth.
With the best will in the world babies, and toddlers will have their off days and there is not a lot you can do about it (sorry). You may have the most placid newborn or the smiliest toddler, you bring them to our cosy studio in Morley, Leeds, and...........their pet lip comes out and they start to cry. They may be feeling unwell, off it, tired, the reason doesn't really matter, what does matter is they're not happy at that moment.
With a newborn baby, we'll take our time and use the magical 5 S's to soothe baby, it takes patience (and I get lots of baby cuddles) but we'll get there eventually. Occasionally, if we have a baby with colic, all the love in the world may not settle them enough for a photoshoot and it's unfair on them to continue.
Willow - newborn shoot
With toddlers who are a little unsettled, we'll just take a little more time to play and help them get used to the environment, but again if they are unwell all they want to do is cuddle and sleep (I'm just the same when I'm unwell). A photoshoot when they are feeling like this isn't fun for anyone and certainly won't capture the smiley memories we're all hoping for.
This can be stressful for parents which is understandable, but there's honestly no need to worry. Our aim is for our families and mini models to have a lovely time with gorgeous and fun memories that go along with the gorgeous photos. It might then be necessary, in some cases, to reschedule the photoshoot - it's not unusual and it's definitely not a problem.
Book your photoshoot confident that we'll do all we can to make and capture precious memories for you to treasure.
